PINNACLE

A celebration of the rich ceramic manufacturing tradition and history of Italy’s Emilia Romagna region, Pinnacle pays tribute to the verticality of medieval architecture, of which the city of Bologna is a prime example.

Created for the 2013 Water Design of Bologna festival, the 26-foot installation consists of two imposing facades made of metalized-porcelain ceramic panels explicitly fabricated for this project by well-known Italian manufacturer Casalgrande Padana. Two trapezoidal façade with high safety performance standards converge to form a pinnacle serving as a dramatic gate to the entrance to the Children’s Hospital of Bologna.

The project was realized collaboratively with Casalgrande Padana, Lev Libeskind, Daniel Libeskind, and their respective studios.
